# Source notices

SF Bay Commute Map adapts [1,880 Views of Kantō / Tokyo Commute Map](https://github.com/kejeng/Tokyo-Commute-Map). Retained canvas foundations, textures and animation keep the original MIT copyright notice in LICENSE. SF-specific code is also MIT licensed. The code license does not relicense external datasets, fonts or provider materials. See [the license inventory](docs/data-licenses.md) for artifact families and unresolved redistribution permissions.

## Geography and evidence

- OpenStreetMap contributors: https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright. ODbL geography, streets, paths, and POIs; public attribution is required.
- USGS 3DEP: https://www.usgs.gov/3d-elevation-program. Elevation source for terrain and walking slope.
- U.S. Census Bureau: https://www.census.gov/data/developers/data-sets/acs-5year.html. ACS estimates retain geography, vintage, and margins of error. Housing estimates are not current asking rents.
- Natural Earth: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/. Public-domain land polygons supply the display coastline beyond the routing extent.
- Caltrans PeMS: https://pems.dot.ca.gov/. District 4 detector metadata and historical hourly speeds supply modeled freeway profiles, with source dates and checksums in the freeway-speed manifest. These are not live traffic measurements.

- Zillow Research: https://www.zillow.com/research/data/. Zillow Observed Rent Index provides market context. Provider terms: https://www.zillow.com/corporate/terms-of-use/. Preserve source/vintage and review applicable redistribution permissions.
- RentCast: https://www.rentcast.io/. Listing-derived ZIP medians retain collection date, bedroom count and sample counts. API data is licensed under https://www.rentcast.io/terms-api, separately from this project's MIT code. API keys and raw listing records stay out of browser assets.
- Apartments.com / CoStar: https://www.apartments.com/. Reviewed neighborhood/city rent and floor-area averages retain their source URLs and dates. Terms: https://www.apartments.com/grow/about/terms-of-service. A public data release needs permission for these records or a replacement source; their inclusion is not an MIT redistribution grant.

## Fonts

Self-hosted fonts use SIL OFL 1.1. Individual licenses and the pinned source/checksum manifest accompany Source Sans 3 and Source Serif 4 (Adobe), Arimo (Arimo Project Authors), and M PLUS 1 Code (M+ FONTS Project Authors). Subsets contain the SF label corpus and Latin interface text.

## Illustrations and textures

The SF Bay cover, starting-place illustrations and place portraits were generated for this project; they are illustrative interpretations, not photographs or official station diagrams. The bridge mark and transit sprite are project SVG artwork. Reusable paper textures and the swimmer animation were retained from the original MIT-licensed atlas. USGS relief is generated separately from the cited elevation input. The license inventory records the asset paths and manifests.
